Frozen Pipes
A freeze is coming.. should I worry about my pipes freezing?
It is possible for your pipes to freeze. If you have a pump or backflow preventor and you are afraid of it freezing and/or cracking there are a few preventative steps you can take.
One is to turn off your system and drain it. The backflow has testcocks to drain with and your pump will have a drain plug. Remember, if you drain your pump, make sure you reprime it before you use it next time.
Another precaution you could take is to cover them as you would cover your plant in freezing weather with material.
Also, you could run the water and let the backflow drip. By keeping the water moving, you will keep the water from freezing.
It is as simple as that! Personally, I just cover my pump and it’s pipe. It is up to your discretion to how you handle your pipes.
