Rain Sensor vs. Smart Controller
A rain sensor saves about 10% of your (our) water. There are studies out there that show the smart controller saving 30% of your water! The difference between a rain sensor and a smart controller is that the rain sensor only turns the water off when it rains ENOUGH. The smart controller turns off the water when it rains enough AND also resets the run time according to the weather. Yes, it resets how long each zone runs. So, when it cools off, it runs less. When it gets hot, it runs more. Also, if it rains, it takes the rainfall into account. Smart controllers are really kind of neat.
A rain sensor costs about $100. If you have a hunter Pro C or I core controller, you can install a smart controller module called a solar sync for $250.
